Former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina opened up about his withdrawal from the IPL 2020, which was held in the UAE amid the Covid pandemic. While nothing was confirmed, reports said that Suresh Raina was unhappy with his hotel room in Dubai as it did not have a balcony.

Raina traveled to the UAE with his CSK team for the IPL 2020 but pulled out before the event citing personal reasons and reservations about the bio-bubble arrangements. Raina’s withdrawal came after numerous CSK players and support staff tested positive for Covid-19.

It was later revealed that Suresh Raina left Dubai to be with his family as his relatives were killed during a robbery in Punjab.

Recently in an interview with Lallantop, Raina refuted the rumors that he didn’t like the balcony hotel room and that’s why he left the IPL 2020.

There was sadness in the family. There were deaths in my uncle’s family. A group of gangsters murdered the entire family. It happened in Pathankot. So I went there. But there was a bio-bubble in the IPL, from which you couldn’t come back. My father was very upset. When the Kachche gang did what they did, my whole family was in stress. I thought cricket came next, I could play anytime, first of all my family was important.

Yes, I told this to MS Dhoni and the team management. Then I returned and we played the 2021 season. We won the trophy. But last year the family was in chaos. They were all already in depression because of Covid-19 and then this happened. I thought I should go home and be with my family,” Raina said at Lallantop.

Absolutely (a statement that biobubbles were not safe). The virus was everywhere. Everyone was tested for Covid-19. Everyone was tested every day. I couldn’t go back because of the biosecurity bubble. You must remain in isolation for 15 days before returning. Then you have to be tested. So I had to stay in the hotel for 30 days. So I thought it wasn’t practical” he added, explaining his statement on the safety of biobubbles.

Raina also revealed the moment when he saw MS Dhoni really angry. He said that when CSK lost Qualifier 2 to Punjab Kings in IPL 2014 in Mumbai, MS Dhoni was so angry that he slammed his helmet and equipment in the dressing room and gave an ear to the team.

“I have never seen Dhoni so angry. He vented it after that match. He said, ‘We don’t score runs, we don’t do this, that’. He threw his sanitary napkin and helmet in the dressing room. He was annoyed because we had a lost a match we should have won. He was angry because we lost a match we shouldn’t have won otherwise we would have won the IPL that year tooRaina said.

Earlier, Virender Sehwag had made 122 in 58 balls to take Punjab to 226/6 in 20 overs. Raina had played an all-time great knock of 87 off 25 balls when CSK were tasked with chasing a 227-run target.

I felt like a man possessed. The day before I had a dream that I would do something special. I saw the ball as a football. But I was up. The ball hitting the bat gave me a completely different sound. I felt like no one could stop meRaina added.
