Devastated when a 7-year-old boy drowns in a hotel near the Limerick-Tipperary border

A seven-year-old boy has been declared dead after drowning at a hotel near the Limerick and Tipperary border.

GardaĆ­ and emergency services responded to an incident at a swimming pool in north Tipperary shortly before 3pm on Saturday.

The boy was taken by ambulance from the Leisure Center at the Lakeside Hotel & Leisure Centre, which overlooks the towns of Ballina and Killaloe.

The child was transported from the scene to University Hospital Limerick where he was later pronounced deceased.

The local coroner has been informed and arrangements are being made for a post-mortem examination.

It is understood that the incident is being treated as a tragic accident.
