Telugu Desam Party (TDP) president N Chandrababu Naidu on Saturday, April 20, promised free bus travel for women if the TDP-JSP-BJP alliance comes to power in next month’s elections in Andhra Pradesh. During his interaction with women on the occasion of his birthday at Gudur in Tirupati district, the former chief minister said women would be given the opportunity to travel for free on Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) buses.

Promising payment of Rs 4,000 welfare pension to all eligible beneficiaries on the first day of every month, he said the amount will be delivered at their doorstep.

Naidu said the TDP will take the responsibility of transforming women into the most powerful section of the country through the ‘Maha Sakthi’ scheme.

Chandrababu Naidu alleged that Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy had misled all sections of the society and asked what happened to his promises to recruit teachers through ‘Mega DSC’ (District Selection Committee) and job calendar.

The TDP chief expressed confidence that the One-Nation-One-Election system will come into force in 2029 for simultaneous Lok Sabha and Assembly elections across the country and said 33 per cent reservation for women would be implemented then.

He claimed that the TDP always prioritized the welfare of women.

He recalled that it was TDP founder late NT Rama Rao who called for every woman in the state to get proper education. He recalled that Padmavathi University was established by NTR with the sole intention of imparting good and quality education to women.

Naidu said when he was Prime Minister, he formed DWCRA groups for women’s self-respect. He recalled that Rs 10,000 each was provided as financial assistance to women under the Pasupu Kumkuma programme, besides providing interest-free loans to them.

Chandrababu said a woman now holds the finance portfolio in the Union Cabinet and the woman is the finance minister of every household. Stating that he always devotes his time for the upliftment of the poor and the Telugu community, he opined that women are capable of holding the leadership positions in the world if they are properly educated.

He alleged that many local leaders are looting the silicon reserves in Andhra Pradesh as well as the sand reserves from the Swarnamukhi river.

He said his idea is to set up industries in this field to provide a good future to the youth.

Claiming that the entire state has been witnessing one scam or the other for the past five years, Chandrababu Naidu said if the YSRCP returns to power, the people will become like slaves.

“My wish is to make the state poverty-free and on the occasion of my birthday, I give my word to all of you that I will make this a reality,” he stated.
