Shocking transfer near miss revealed

The Sun reports that West Ham almost secured a sensational deal for Cole Palmer before Chelsea swooped in at the last minute in a shock transfer that almost went wrong. What is not so widely reported, however, is that West Ham would have ultimately missed out on the signing of Mohammed Kudus if Palmer had been signed.

At the time, there were rumors that Manchester City had considered including Palmer in a swap deal for Lucas Paqueta, but this is the first confirmation of West Ham’s interest in the player.

Palmer, eager for more first-team play after limited opportunities at the Etihad, eventually joined Chelsea, where he has flourished.

West Ham director Karren Brady revealed that Palmer, 21, was close to joining West Ham. She suggested that financial restrictions under football’s financial rules could have influenced Pep Guardiola’s decision to let him go. She commented: ‘From all the newsreels I’ve seen, Cole is as cool a guy in front of goal as Jimmy Greaves himself. This is probably why David Moyes was so keen to sign him. We had even made a deal with City until Chelsea intervened.”

Hammer’s shock transfer that almost failed could have ended well for West Ham

David Moyes must spoil his missed opportunity, especially after Palmer’s explosive performance, including a hat-trick against Everton earlier this week, which took his total for the season to 20 league goals.

I have to say that there are sometimes things I wish I had never discovered. However, you have to wonder if we would have ever signed Mohammed Kudus if the Palmer signing had happened.
