Ernst makes a plea for former club chiefs

Bottom-of-the-table Cape Town Spurs will ‘support’ Kaizer Chiefs when they take on Richards Bay on Sunday, Spurs coach Ernst Middendorp has said.

Spurs are currently five points behind Bay, who they face next week, and if they are to have any real chance of moving from bottom spot they will need Chiefs to take the full points on Sunday afternoon from Vusumuzi Vilakazi’s team.

Spurs take on Bay at the Athlone Stadium on Friday, and if they can get a win and Bay don’t score any points against Chiefs, Middendorp’s side would be just two points behind their relegation rivals.

“We now have the match on Friday against Richards Bay,” Middendorp told the media.

“At a time when we should be fans of Kaizer Chiefs, they should do their job (tomorrow) and take this match against Richards Bay seriously.

“We are currently playing against Richards Bay, it is still five points and with the Friday evening match we can probably close the distance. Our job at the moment is to make that happen, to get back within two points.

“And then our home game against Polokwane on Tuesday, Richards Bay play AmaZulu, let’s wait and see what happens.”
